My inspiration for opening my own Pilates studio: I learned of Pilates after being in a car accident in 1997 while living in Boulder, Colorado. A chiropractor who was caring for me thought that Pilates would be a great alternative rehab program for my injuries. After two years of my Pilates rehab program my life was forever changed. One of my Pilates instructors encouraged me to go to The Pilates Center where she had previously attended. The Pilates Method changed me physically and mentally and I wanted to be able to give back to others what so many wonderful instructors had given me, a new lease on life. 11 Years and (3) studios later I am proud to say that everyday I am happy to go to work, I look forward to seeing and working with our clients. The studios have become my home away from home and the clients are like my extended family.
My vision/mission for my studio is: for Jennifer Pilates to be nationally known for its Classical Pilates Instruction as well as our in-depth Pilates Golf Conditioning Programs and Clinics.
My initial fears: Interestingly enough I never had fears. I jumped in with both feet and never looked back. If I had thought, really thought about all the what ifs…it might not have ever happened.
If I knew then what I know now: I am not a person who believes in regrets or what ifs. With that said, I do believe that everything happens for a reason, and I was meant to travel the paths that I have. I appreciate the experiences and knowledge that I have gained and look forward to what is to come…..
My favorite thing about owning my own studio: Helping clients to achieve their goals. From a business view, I make my own schedule and I can take all the holidays off (if I choose)…
Useful skills of a successful studio owner: A Business and or marketing degree/background. Definitely the obvious, a good solid Classical Pilates Certification. The ability to communicate well, along with a good customer service policy.
Services offered at my studio:
Pilates Private, Duets and Trios
Classes: Pilates Mat, Pilates Sculpting and Reformer Trios
Pilates Golf Conditioning Privates and Clinics
Pre and Post Natal
Mom and Me Pilates Classes
Indian Head Massage
What makes my studio unique: Our boutique style, our hands on customer service and our classically trained instructors.
How I initially got clients in the door: Fliers locally, and interviews with the town paper, press releases of the studio and word of mouth.
How I retain clients: Our customer service. Clients know that they can always reach me via phone or email.

What I look for in my instructors: Passion, true passion for the Classical Pilates Method. Good verbal cuing, a kind heart and hand.
My greatest challenges as a studio owner/employer: Retaining clients, scheduling and teaching, all while marketing to keep the studios financially strong with a steady stream of new clientele.
My inspirations: Joseph Pilates. I am always referring to his books, every time I re-read them I see something he said in a different light. My fellow Pilates instructors who are so great for bouncing ideas off of. My teachers from the Pilates Center, who continue to share their knowledge and skills.
How I maintain my passion: I enjoy analyzing the wellness industry and challenge myself to always stay ahead of the “new trends” when it comes to practical business as well as program ideas. I am currently enrolled in The Pilates Center Master Pilates Certification Program. It is so important to continue to learn. As my teachers have always said, “we are all beginners, learning something new everyday.”
Words of wisdom or advice for future Pilates studio owners: Have passion for your work, follow your heart. When in doubt reread Joe's books for guidance and support. Have a good business plan for growth and prosperity. Above all continue to learn!
When I'm not running my studio I'm: Networking my studios, working out myself, enjoying friends and family. Finding peace, happiness and balance in my life.
One question I would ask Joseph Pilates: Where do we go from here Joe?
My mentors: There are so many who have contributed to where I am today. Here are a few of them: Amy Alpers, Rachel Taylor-Segel, Debora Robinson Kolwey and Liz Phelps.
My favorite T-shirt from Joe's Pila-T-Shop: I love them all, however I do favor the tanks!!! Keep them coming, I wear them all the time!
